CARTHAGO CERAMIC LAUNCHES LARGE-SCALE EXPANSION PLAN

The first 100% Tunisian-owned private industrial group listed on the Tunis stock exchange, Poulina Group Holding (PGH) was founded in 1967 by Abdelwahab Ben Ayed and now has 108 subsidiaries and more than 12,000 employees. The building materials business Is concentrated in the Carthago Ceramic division located in Sfax, a market leader in Tunisia known internationally for the production of ceramic tiles and clay bricks as well as its operations in the two fast-growing segments of sanitaryware and building adhesives.

Choice of technology partners is a crucial factor in production line design.  "Tecnofiliere advised us on the best shaping and extrusion solutions and proposed their top-of-the-range technologies", says Taieb Ketari, General Manager of Carthago Ceramic.  "Following an in-depth analysis conducted by the technical and sales staff, they proposed the TFE-J EVO dies, recently upgraded with mechanisms that facilitate the clay flow and guarantee the highest level of abrasion resistance. The cores and frames of each die are made of Tecnocarbide®, a material with a wear resistance of 2000 HV which allows for long lasting production without significant changes in terms of brick weight or dimensions. The TFE-J EVO dies maintain the benefits of extrusion with the wide-exit system. This allows the output cross-section of clay body to be increased and considerably raises hourly production capacity while significantly reducing energy consumption. To improve this important aspect, Tecnofiliere also proposed its innovative pressure heads with special polymer liners that allow for significant improvements in energy efficiency and an almost unlimited pressure head lifetime".
